Social Studies - Globalization Skit 2008

Faith Madhavan from Sec 4/4, and Deborah Quek Ren Qi, Vada Lim Zi Qi, Linette Cheong Yeak Yeow and Siti Fatimah bte Shaik Omar Bamadhaj all from Sec 4/5, did the school proud by clinching the second runner-up position in the National Globalisation Skit Competition this year organized by the Humanities Department at Dunman High Secondary School . Their skit revolved around the lives of children in an unnamed developing country. The parents of the children were tricked by ‘agents' who promised that their children would be given an education free of charge in the big city some distance away. Lured by this promise, the parents let their children go, not realizing that the children would end up as cheap labour for a fictitious transnational corporation and not be given any education at all. One of the children was appointed to write to all the parents periodically and tell them what they wanted to hear, but the parents did not realize how far the letters were from the truth…The judges said that the our students' performance was ‘very poignant' and indeed the audience must have thought so too, because there was pin-drop silence while it was going on.
