After an eight-year hiatus, the TKGS Symphonic Band returned to perform at Limelight 2026 at the Esplanade Concert Hall on 21st May. The enchanting concert featured the main band alongside the Sec 1 band members, who lent their melodious voices to the final two pieces. The invitation-only performance marked a significant milestone for the band community. Despite having to prepare for the event during the WA2 period and adapting to a new instructor at the start of the year, we remained resilient and committed, arriving early for rehearsals and supporting one another through challenges and uncertainty.
In the months leading up to the concert, some of us were worried whether we would be fully prepared in time. Nevertheless, through perseverance, hard work and determination, we successfully delivered an emotional performance! “The experience taught the band the true value of hard work, resilience and teamwork,” reflects Arecia Chiang (student conductor). Although nerves ran high before the concert, the audience's enthusiastic response and heartfelt applause left the band members feeling immensely proud and deeply touched. “Limelight helped me rediscover my passion for music, something which had long been turned into a skill that I viewed as merely an accolade,” shares Arielle Ho (euphonium section leader).
Limelight was a meaningful and memorable experience for the band, especially for the Secondary 4 students who graced the stage together for the final time. Through resilience, unity and a shared passion, the band not only grew musically, but also strengthened our bonds as one band, one sound.
